PlayStation 5 ‘The Future of Gaming’ reveal event is on

The Future of Gaming Event

The big day is here! The PlayStation 5 reveal event is live. Sony had initially set June 4 as the date for this event, but the Japanese company had to postpone it out of respect for the social protests happening in the United States.

Rescheduled for June 11, the additional week only increased the hype surrounding the showcase.

This should come as no surprise considering the fact that the brand remains the strongest when it comes to home consoles. Sony has sold more than 455 million units to date across the previous four generations.

What’s interesting is that this is a pre-taped event. The ongoing coronavirus pandemic has forced people to work from home, which is the reason why the show has been pre-recorded.

Jim Ryan, President & CEO, Sony Interactive Entertainment:

“This digital showcase will run for a bit more than an hour and, for the first time, we will all be together virtually experiencing the excitement together. A lack of physical events has given us an amazing opportunity to think differently and bring you on this journey with us, and hopefully, closer than ever before. This is part of our series of PS5 updates and, rest assured, after next week’s showcase, we will still have much to share with you.”

Anyway, here we are.

Proceedings are set to begin at 1 PM Pacific Time on the company’s official YouTube channel.

Curiously, the show will be broadcast at 1080p at 30 frames per second. And this is a tad surprising when you consider that most of the PlayStation 5 games that are set to be shown off come with support for 4K resolution.

According to the official announcement published, Sony advises fans to watch the gamine event wearing headphones for a more immersive experience.

The two most coveted pieces of information are the release date of this console, and its pricing. It is unclear whether Sony will provide these details today, or save them for a later occasion. What we do know is that we will finally get to see some PlayStation 5 games.

Watch the hour-long event stream above when it goes live.

And enjoy the show!
